How to Setup Gmail as a SPAM Filter for Your Blackberry

Article by Lucinda Watrous
Many people hate SPAM and as much as they try to fight it, they receive it everyday. To lessen the annoyance just a bit, take some time to setup Gmail as a SPAM filter for your Blackberry. Read on to find out more.

The process we are about to show you is very simple, free, and easy to use. It only takes a few minutes to set up and soon you will be enjoying a mailbox full of mail that is actually useful to you. This is useful for accounts that do not have SPAM filters or ones that have very poor SPAM filters.

Step One: Go to Gmail.com and create an account. This can be anything you want, for instance, spamcatcher@gmail.com. If you use any other google services, this is a nice thing to have. If you already have a Gmail account, skip to step two.

Step Two: Set the email address you normally use—the unfiltered one, example: user@domain.com—to forward to the gmail account you just created. This means that all your email will first go to Gmail, and go through the SPAM filter.

Step Three: Use the BIS website to add both your new Gmail address and your other email address to your Blackberry device.

Step Four: Login to BIS and click the filters option next to the user@domain.com account.

Step Five: Look for something that says, “When No Filter Applies” and underneath it you should see something that says, “Do not forward messages to device.” Select this option. This will ensure the messages hitting your Gmail account will get sent to your phone.

That's all there is to it. Gmail will catch all the SPAM messages and only send the good messages to you. Gmail will archive everything in the event that you need to go back and look at something or make sure messages are not getting caught in the SPAM filter. It's a completely free option to avoid SPAM on your Blackberry, and works just as well as many of the paid options available on the market today.
