Blackberry Storm Review

The Blackberry smart phone brand has been in the market for many years. The phone from the very start is known for its innovative features particularly e-mail. The phone for many years has been known for its instant emailing service. The earlier models were not that successful in the market as they lacked aesthetically in look and style. However, in recent years the company has come out with some of the more stylish phones being produced in the smart phone market. One such example is the Blackberry Storm.

The Blackberry Storm has many admired features, but one such feature which ranks above all others is the lack of physical keyboard. This is the first phone of the blackberry series which possesses a touch screen. But like all its previous models the phone has always carried with it an element of surprise. The touch screen of the phone is quite unique, placing pressure on the screen causes it to slide a bit into the body of the phone; this is followed by a clicking action. This has helped the users of the phone especially those with shaky hands, to be more accurate at the pointing. The touch screen on Blackberry Storm has been designed in such a way that one gets a feeling that he is pressing or working on a keyboard. All this gives the user an impression that he is virtually pressing a button.

The name of the phone goes along with it, Blackberry Storm has truly created a storm in the minds of the admirers of the phone. Apart from the emailing service, this phone has it all, 3 mega pixel camera, quality video playback, WiFi and a stand by time of about 30-40 hours. The phone is also highly ranked for the internet compatibility service it provides. Working on the internet is similar to working on any computer. Even the video playback facility available on the phone is one of the most superb yet. However, one might be disappointed at first use because the phone, much like other touch screen phones, takes a bit of getting used to. As one gets used to it the phone may become more and more useful.

Coming to the price factor, the product from the start has been priced at affordable rates. The phone also contains a business element in it such as quick note, alarm for appointments and other things at the front page. This has helped the phone in even attracting a huge number of businessmen to its customer list. The camera of the phone also includes auto focus which helps the phone increase the picture quality. Apart from this, the Blackberry Storm has also been highly marked on its audio and video quality of the phone which is one of the best in the market.

Therefore, if one wants to have a gorgeous phone which has all the newest features of internet, e-mailing and multimedia entertainment all packed into one, then the Blackberry Storm is the perfect choice.

BlackBerry Storm 2 - Get to Know it Before You Buy It

BlackBerry Storm 2 review should be read before initiating any purchase so that one comprehends the nice features avaulable. BlackBerry storm2 comes in elegant black color with rounded and smooth silver edges. This has a TFT sensitive screen supported with a 360 x 480 pixels resolution and is featured with a QWERTY keypad to assist in input text. The sophistication of this device lures everyone to own it. The device is appropriate for business as it has fine business features such as Multi Tap, Sure Type, MS Word, Excel, Power Point and PDF files. Various connectivity options are embedded such as 3G, GPRS, Bluetooth, USB, HSDPA and EDGE technology such that the HTML supports the internet browsing. Also this device is employed as RIM modem.

The pleasure of using BlackBerry Storm2 is mainly owing to its auto focus support and the LED flash makes the picture clicking enjoyable. Being a touch phone, BlackBerry Storm2 is featured with an external camera, image stabilization and Geo Tagging. The media player supports AAC, MP3, WMA, AAC+ and 3GP, besides the users can make use of Polyphonic, MP3 and MIDI ring tones. The device has unique features such as Roxio Media Manager and auto rotate screen, besides it is also compatible with various social network websites such as MySpace, Facebook, etc. BlackBerry Storm2 also features messaging services such as MMS and SMS through wireless email and supports downloadable games. However, a completely charged battery offers 5.5 hours talk time and stand by for 360 hours.

The Blackberry Storm2 is a smart phone with a touch screen that perfectly fits the need of most users and should attend easily business and communication needs. The evolution of BlackBerry Storm 2 has come as a welcome as the physical keys have been replaced such that the touchscreen comprises everything. The smartphone is sleeker in comparison to its predecessor, and the big change refers to the clickable touchscreen that brings out the fact that it has been upgraded. There is an improved camera and the music playback in association with BlackBerry Media Sync brings all the tunes to Storm 2 easily. Selecting videos and tracks in the menu system is basic, yet the highlight is that RIM introduced the flagship touchscreen device.

BlackBerry Storm 2 is a great improvement, and proves to be an evolution, but not a revolution, despite the interface overhauling. However, the smartphone features wide screen video and full web browsing with aplomb, and the touchscreen accuracy is much improved. It is simple to push the screen to enter text than earlier and facilitates multiple clicks at a stretch which means pressing a letter and shift is easier now than before. Copy and paste is also simpler as the improved text auto-correct feature helps to a great extent as the user can just enter the words and the sentences just fall easily. Conversely, the BlackBerry Storm 2 review states that the text auto-correct is a useful tool, but not infallible like RIM would like the user to believe.

BlackBerry Storm2 is a major brand and makes people yearn for this astonishing handset and is creating raves amidst mobile users. This is a third generation phone with plenty of features, and this gadget looks dashing. However, reading a review allows the user to think about their needs and to act accordingly.

How to Setup Gmail as a SPAM Filter for Your Blackberry

How to Setup Gmail as a SPAM Filter for Your Blackberry

Article by Lucinda Watrous
Many people hate SPAM and as much as they try to fight it, they receive it everyday. To lessen the annoyance just a bit, take some time to setup Gmail as a SPAM filter for your Blackberry. Read on to find out more.

The process we are about to show you is very simple, free, and easy to use. It only takes a few minutes to set up and soon you will be enjoying a mailbox full of mail that is actually useful to you. This is useful for accounts that do not have SPAM filters or ones that have very poor SPAM filters.

Step One: Go to Gmail.com and create an account. This can be anything you want, for instance, spamcatcher@gmail.com. If you use any other google services, this is a nice thing to have. If you already have a Gmail account, skip to step two.

Step Two: Set the email address you normally use—the unfiltered one, example: user@domain.com—to forward to the gmail account you just created. This means that all your email will first go to Gmail, and go through the SPAM filter.

Step Three: Use the BIS website to add both your new Gmail address and your other email address to your Blackberry device.

Step Four: Login to BIS and click the filters option next to the user@domain.com account.

Step Five: Look for something that says, “When No Filter Applies” and underneath it you should see something that says, “Do not forward messages to device.” Select this option. This will ensure the messages hitting your Gmail account will get sent to your phone.

That's all there is to it. Gmail will catch all the SPAM messages and only send the good messages to you. Gmail will archive everything in the event that you need to go back and look at something or make sure messages are not getting caught in the SPAM filter. It's a completely free option to avoid SPAM on your Blackberry, and works just as well as many of the paid options available on the market today.

Blackberry - Is It Right For You?

What Is A Blackberry all about - and do we need it?
Blackberry is the newest, and now the most popular, wave in personal organizer technology. Boasting the best email program available, Blackberry provides all the basic PDA features, a phone, and on the go email and internet service.
How blackberry compares to phones and personal organizers
For the most part, there is little consensus in Blackberry reviews. Some argue the gadget is overpriced and offers inadequate features in regards to the mobile phone and personal organizer. However, others live by the device and will use no other. Similar to the Windows/Macintosh war, it seems some people are just happier with one or the other. Either way, the mobile phone and personal organizer features seem to be adequate, even if only just so. Fortunately, it would seem the major complaints about the phone and organizer have been addressed in the newer models of the device. What does seem to be the consensus is that these features are secondary to the real purpose of Blackberry – the email.
Pros of Blackberry
The most advantageous feature of the blackberry is its email capabilities. Even in the early models, email on the go was the most fine-tuned characteristic and that which was sought after the most. As time has gone on, other areas of the device have also been developed to create an all-around capable product.
Cons of Blackberry
In the earlier Blackberry models, the mobile phones were horrible! Although this has been remedied to some extent, some still complain of poor audio quality and the uncomfortable design of the device when used as a mobile phone. The small screen on some of the models has also been criticized. It does little good to have browsing and email capabilities when you can not read what is on the screen!
How to choose which model is best for you
In the quest for the perfect Blackberry, it is a good idea to have some clue what you are looking for. Obviously, the email capability is important or you probably would not be looking at a Blackberry in the first place. What other features are you looking for? While most models now come with mobile phone features, some are primarily a phone, meaning they are more traditionally shaped, thinner, and provide more comfort when held to the ear. On the other hand, some retain the “calculator” square shape which is less comfortable. If you plan to use the phone feature a lot, perhaps a phone model would be better suited to you.
Likewise, the devices that are shaped more like a mobile phone lose a considerable amount of space in regards to the keyboard and screen size. So, if typing, email, and browsing are a primary focus, a square version may be better.
There are even versions on the market that come equipped with GPS and digital walkie-talkie capabilities. For an outdoorsman, or for someone who just gets lost a lot, these features could be valuable. However, these features are not as common as the more traditional PDA features.
Size is also an issue. You can go with the smaller phone versions, have a more comfortable fit in your pocket, and forego a little screen size and keyboard capabilities. On the other hand, a larger screen and keyboard means you may prefer to carry the device in a case instead of your pocket. Bulkiness and weight are considerations to keep in mind, as each model varies.
There are also more minor factors to consider when choosing a Blackberry, such as ringtone availability, speakerphone capability, and battery life. Battery life varies greatly from one device to the next, ranging from hours to several days. If you need a long battery life, keep this in mind. Likewise, some models do not come with a speakerphone, which is a major thing for some people. Be sure to check these other features when choosing which Blackberry to go with.
A Blackberry is an incredibly convenient gadget to utilize. It is important, however, to take prudence when choosing the device so it meets all of your needs. The last thing you need is another expensive collector of dust on your nightstand.

How to Use Your Blackberry as a Modem

How to Use Your Blackberry as a Modem

Article by Lucinda Watrous
As if the Blackberry didn't have enough uses already, it can be used as a modem too. Read this to find out more about how to use your Blackberry as a modem.

Most of the time when you are traveling, you have access to free wi-fi connections in your hotel room, and even in the local McDonald's. In the event that you find yourself stuck, needing to use your laptop with no wi-fi connection in site, all you need to do is use your Blackberry as a modem. You will need to make sure that your Blackberry is one of the models with the “tethered modem capability.” These phones are:

* BlackBerry® 7130c
* BlackBerry® 7130e
* BlackBerry® 7250
* BlackBerry® Curve 8300
* BlackBerry® Curve 8310
* BlackBerry® Curve 8320
* BlackBerry® 8703e
* BlackBerry® 8705g
* BlackBerry® 8707g
* BlackBerry® 8800
* BlackBerry® 8820
* BlackBerry® 8830 World Edition

If you are using one of those Blackberry phones, follow these instructions to tether your phone to your laptop to use it as a modem.

Make sure you have a USB cable, and the BlackBerry Handheld Manager installed on your laptop. Blackberry Handheld Manager is part of the Desktop Manager software that is required in order to install applications to your device. If you do not have it, you can download it to your laptop from Blackberry. (If you do not have this before needing your phone as a modem, you will have to find a source of wi-fi before you can do it.) All you need to do is open the Desktop Software and the Handheld Manager will also run.

You'll need to make sure you have the necessary modem drivers on your phone before using it as a modem. Most of the models above come with the drivers already loaded on them. If not, you'll be able to get the necessary drivers from the Blackberry Desktop Manager software.

Once you have determined that you have everything you need in order to use your Blackberry as a modem, you'll need to go into your phone and configure the settings specific to your provider and ensure that your modem drivers are working correctly. Another how to for this will be coming along soon.

Setup a new connection in your laptop. The setup for this follows the setup process for any other Internet connection and will vary depending on which version of Windows you are using.

Now, disable IP Header Compression with the following steps:

1. Start Menu->Network Connections->”BlackBerry Modem” (or whatever you chose to name the connection you set up in the previous step.
2. Click Properties Button
3. Click Networking Tab
4. Select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)”
5. Click Properties.
6. Click Advanced.
7. Disable “Use IP header compression” with the checkbox.
8. Close out all the menus by clicking OK.

Connect the phone to the laptop with USB, open the Blackberry Desktop Management Software, click the Modem icon and find the available connections. You will be able to use the Internet on your laptop with the Blackberry serving as your modem.

The Most Useful Free Blackberry Apps

Article by Bill Fulks
A look at some of the must-have free apps for the Blackberry.
Free Blackberry Apps

There are a bunch of really awesome apps for the Blackberry, and many of them are absolutely free. These apps let you listen to free music online, interact with social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, and much more. Best of all, they are absolutely free to use and download. You can download them directly to your phone using Blackberry App World, or download them to your computer and install using Desktop Manager.

Free MusicSlackerYou can actually listen to the radio with your Blackberry, thanks to free apps like Pandora and Slacker. These apps interface with online radio stations to stream music over the internet and right into your phone. You won’t believe the selection that allows you to search through songs and listen to what you want, or just let it play. Best of all, you can play it through your car stereo if you have the right kind of adapter. Why pay for satellite radio when you can get it for free on your Blackberry?

If you are unsure of which one to pick, be sure to check out this great article called Slacker vs. Pandora.

Social Media
If you are a frequent user of sites like Facebook and Twitter, then there are some great free apps that let you interact with those sites very easily.

FacebookThe Facebook app is pretty good for keeping up with your friend’s updates and viewing news feeds. However, it doesn’t work so well when it comes to uploading photos. It also won’t show you who all ‘likes’ something that a friend posted. Despite its limitations, I think it is still a solid app and I use it all the time.

UberTwitter is an excellent interface for Twitter users, and it provides instant access to your friends and their tweets. This program is ad-supported, but that just means you will have a small banner ad at the top of the tweet listing page. You can easily ignore it by scrolling down.

Information and ReferenceYou can use your Smartphone to look up useless information like who sang the theme song to Diff’rent Strokes (it was Alan Thicke, the dad from Growing Pains), but you can also get some apps that are truly useful in a variety of situations.

PoyntOne of the most popular free Blackberry apps is called Poynt. It uses your GPS to find your location, then tells you where pretty much anything of interest is located and how far away. It’s like having a ‘You Are Here’ location on a map that follows you everywhere. It will show you restaurants, movie theaters, stores, and more. I recently used it while travelling in south Florida because I wanted some Starbucks. If you ever find yourself in an unfamiliar location, Poynt will make your life easier. This app is simply amazing, especially because it’s free.

BloombergIf playing the stock market is your thing, or maybe you just like to see how different companies are doing, then you should check out Bloomberg Mobile. It’s completely free and very easy to use, plus it gives you real-time values on any kind of stock. You can even set up your own private portfolio for it to track how your own stocks are doing.
Honorable Mention

I am giving Blackberry App World honorable mention here because it is nice to have a centralized place to get apps for your phone. The only problem is that I hate the interface for it. I found it to be incredibly slow while browsing for apps, and I usually get frustrated and quit looking after a couple of minutes. Why can’t we have some kind of iTunes clone for Blackberry?

The Best Free Blackberry Games

Article by Bill Fulks

A look at the top five free game apps for the Blackberry.

Who doesn’t like to play games on their phone? Blackberry users actually have some decent choices when it comes to mobile gaming, so don’t think that iPhone people are having all the fun. Here’s a look at some of the best free Blackberry games you can find on Blackberry App World. Unfortunately, there are not many free ones out there, but these will definitely keep you entertained.

GT Blackjack Online

blackjackThere’s nothing like passing the time with a few rounds of cards and someone else’s virtual money. This great Blackjack game features online play that is a lot like the Blackjack games you’ll find on sites like MySpace and Yahoo. Sometimes a game can go a little slow if other players are taking their time, but it’s still a lot of fun. This game is also great practice if you’re going to play the real deal at a casino. It’s cheaper, too.

Aces Mahjong – Lite

MahjongThis is the lite (demo) version of the full Aces Mahjong game, but it’s still quite fun. This demo lets you play on 5 of the 50 layouts available in the full game. However, those 5 are plenty for the casual gamer since it takes a while to complete each one. This is an excellent time killer as well as strategy game, and it still looks great on the small Blackberry screen. Definitely check it out if you like Mahjong. You might even wind up buying the full version.

Sudoku Lite

SodukoLike Aces Mahjong Lite, this is also a demo game. However, Sudoku Lite lets you play several different Sudoku puzzles and is quite fun. I love testing out my math skills with this game, and it will challenge you no matter how good you think you are. This is a great game to play when you have a few minutes to spare, and it’s also got an educational spin because it makes you do math in your head. Put this one on your phone and let your kids play.

GT Warship Online

WarshipIf you’ve ever played the classic naval battle board game called Battleship, then you already know what to expect from GT Warship Online. It’s a slimmed down version of Battleship, but the basic principle is still the same. You place your ships, then open fire on the opponent’s board and try to figure out where they placed their ships. It goes back and forth until you’ve sunk everything. It sounds rather simple, but I assure you it is fun and addictive. Best of all, it’s free!

Ka-Glom

Ka-GlomKa-Glom is my favorite free Blackberry game. It wasn’t originally made to be a free game, but App World says it is free for a limited time only. The thing is, it has said that for several months, so get it while you still can. This awesome game is like a cross between Tetris and a connect-four type puzzler. It also has a puzzle mode that will challenge you. For more information, check out my Ka-Glom review.

Using Media Studio to Watch DVD Moviews on Your BlackBerry

Article by LauraMS

Media Studio offers technology that converts full-length DVD movies to formats compatible to your BlackBerry mobile device. This means you can enjoy movies (and other media) on your BlackBerry at any time. Read on to find out more about Media Studio and if it's compatible with your BlackBerry.
BlackBerry Has Come A Long Way

The BlackBerry mobile platform has come a long way from the days when earlier devices were only really good for email. Our modern BlackBerry devices are great organizers and time-savers as they not only perform email functions, but also allow us to communicate via text messages, IM or voice communication. And BlackBerry offers endless hours of web surfing (that is, if you have the right data plan) along with the push email feature that made the device famous. Most recently, the BlackBerry has also become more consumer oriented and now offers outstanding media functionality. For instance, did you know that you can watch full-length DVD movies on your BlackBerry media player? Media Studio helps make this possible as they want you to get maximum enjoyment from your BlackBerry and what better way to do this than have several of your favorite DVD movies stored on your device?
Media Studio

Media Studio, brought to us by Makayama Media, helps convert your favorite DVD movies to a format compatible to your device. Whether you’re far away in a foreign land or enjoying a day at the park, Media Studio turns your handheld into a palm-sized DVD library as a day at the movies can be enjoyed anywhere and at anytime. And not only can you watch any DVD movies of your choosing, but Media Studio also enables you to enjoy recorded television and homemade video content on your BlackBerry mobile device too. Media Studio even converts foreign language movies or movies with subtitles for enjoyment on your BlackBerry.
We Advise Installing a Memory Card First

If you don’t already have one, it’s advisable that you first purchase and install a removable memory card to download your favorite DVD movies to (also good for storing your favorite mp3’s and other media that you wouldn’t want hogging all of the available space on your device). Having a 1-gigabyte memory card means that you can store approximately 8 full-length movies or approximately 15 hours of other video content without disturbing any of the available memory on your BlackBerry mobile platform.
Media Studio BlackBerry System Requirements

For now, Media Studio is only available for BlackBerry mobile devices with operating systems of 4.0 through 4.7. So be sure to verify that your device is compatible before purchasing Media Studio to convert DVD movies for your BlackBerry. And, as we always recommend, please remember to back your device up before installing any new application to your mobile device.

Blackberry Storm Review: First Full Screen Touch Phone From Blackberry

Blackberry Storm Review: First Full Screen Touch Phone From Blackberry

It may seem like the iPhone may have the full touch screen smartphone market cornered. There aren’t many phones to choose from in this family. It takes a very innovative company to release a rival full touch screen smartphone. Blackberry offers consumers such a rival. The RIM Blackberry Storm is one of the latest additions to the full touch screen smartphone line. It is the first full touch screen cell phone from Blackberry. Blackberry entered the race with a complete set of advantages and feature set it has brought along with from its impressive Blackberry smartphone line. With its impressive list of features and low price the RIM Blackberry Storm will make a great phone for anyone who is looking for an affordable replacement to the iPhone. But the Storm also does come with a list of minor problems that can hamper a person’s enjoyment of the phone.

The RIM Blackberry Storm is quite similar to the iPhone in its design and look. The notable differences are that the Storm is shorter and heavier than the iPhone. Also there are standard phone controls located under the display screen. The biggest achievement is the Storms utilization of SurePress technology. This allows the user to perform functions by actually clicking on the screen instead of just tapping it. Unfortunately clicking on the screen does take a while to get used to because honestly clicking on the screen feels awkward. Also anyone with big hands or fingers might have trouble typing messages because the keyboard that is displayed is quite small and the letters are crammed together. Those accustom to trackball navigator might miss it as it is absent on the RIM Blackberry Storm.

The RIM Blackberry Storm offers the same features found on all previous Blackberry phones. It continues offering its users an amazing operating system and even upgrades it from the previous installment. The user is able to use and open various Microsoft Office files such as Word, Excel and even Power Point. As with previous Blackberry phones the Storm is able to link with your company’s Blackberry Enterprise Server allowing you access to corporate emails and files. The phone can even act as a wireless modem for laptops. It is an amazing application which costs only $15 a month.

The phone feels as if it was rushed to be released just in time for the holidays because there are a lot of bugs and small glitches. The accelerometer needed more work. Switching the phone to and from landscape mode was fine but websites took a while to change screen position. The multimedia controls are also affected by this. When rotating the phone the controls sometimes appeared to be flashing and even disappear from the screen at one point. Aside from the accelerometer websites generally took a while to load and certain apps were sluggish upon launching.

As far as the phone performance the RIM Blackberry Storm did great. Callers can enjoy clear and crisp calls. The voices on the other end will sound very well. Also your voice will sound clear to your caller as well. The microphone is great at isolating and not picking up background noise.

The RIM Blackberry Storm could use more work. There have been promises of firmware upgrades which will fix many of the bugs found on this phone. While the updates to fix some of the problems they don’t address all of them. But for the price of the phone and amazing capabilities it is still a reasonable buy. Just be sure to get the firmware upgrade if you decide to purchase this phone.

BlackBerry Storm Camera Review

BlackBerry Storm Camera Review

The Storm has a 3.2 megapixel camera. The software controlling it isn't changed all that much compared to other BlackBerries. Launching the camera (with the dedicated button or via the menu) takes about 3 seconds.

The screen shows you your subject and there is a bar along the bottom that shows you what the camera's settings are at a glance. The volume toggle lets you zoom in and out, and you can also use pinching -- yes, that means "multi-touch" -- gestures on the screen itself to zoom the camera in and out. It doesn't work great, though, and I found it to be somewhat awkward.

I dislike that you can't change any of the settings (except zoom) directly from the viewfinder view. You have to press the BlackBerry key to open up the options list. You can only alter the basics: resolution, quality, the flash and white balance settings. No fancy-schmancy editing functions or other controls.

The flash is insanely bright. You could strap it to the front of a car if you wanted to and use it as a headlight (OK, not really, but almost). The flash fires to help the camera focus. Don't be surprised if your friends complain about being blinded. The camera takes up to two seconds to focus, and then another two seconds to take the picture and bring you to the review screen.

You can take pictures in either landscape or portrait mode. The phone takes the picture in whichever mode you're holding the phone, so if you shoot the phone holding it in landscape mode, it will take a landscape picture.

After you take a picture and it is saved, you have 5 immediate options to choose from. The default is to take another picture, but you can also choose to send the image (as an email or MMS), rename it, set as desktop/caller ID, or trash it.

Review: BlackBerry Storm

The Storm's music player is nearly identical to that found on the Bold and the Pearl Flip, save for the integration of touch. Tap the Media icon in the main menu to open the gateway to all the Storm's media.

The basic music menu is unchanged from other 'Berries. It lets you select from the songs, artists, genres, albums, playlists, etc. For the first time in recent memory, there is actually an equalizer available for users to alter the sound, You have to hit the BlackBerry key to find it, under the options selection. It offers 12 equalizer pre-sets to adjust the sound a little bit better to your tastes. You can also turn an audio boost function on and off. This raises the maximum volume of playback.

The player is no more impressive than the Curve's. You can play or pause/stop the music with the touch screen, as well as skip forward and backward tracks. As with most media players, a progress bar shows you how much of the song remains, and album art is displayed if it is tagged to the song. Again, the BlackBerry key pulls up a big menu of options that can be altered during playback, such as sending the music to a Bluetooth headset, setting the current song as a ringtone, and others.

Music played back through the speaker sounds okay, but not great. You can make it insanely loud if you want, but the quality of the sound suffers a bit if you do. Music sounds pretty good through either regular headphones or stereo Bluetooth headphones. The EQ and audio boost function both go a long way to making the Storm one of the best-sounding 'Berries I've reviewed.

Music can be sideloaded directly onto a microSD card. It can also be drag-and-dropped through mass storage mode. Lastly, it can be synced with the Roxio music software (which comes with the device), or an as-yet-unreleased piece of software that will allow direct syncing with iTunes.
